When you have a husband who comes from a family where they put gravy on everything and practically drinks the stuff, you have to learn how to make a good gravy.
I usually only make gravy when doing a roast and using the meat juices, but I recently needed to make a quick gravy so came up with the easy recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 large white onion, chopped
- 1tbsp flour
- 1 glass red wine
- 500ml stock (use could use vegetable, beef or chicken)
Method
Sweat the onion in a little olive oil on a low heat in a large saucepan. This should take around 10 minutes.
Add the flour until the onions are coated, then add the red wine, stock and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Allow to simmer for around 20 minutes are or until the gravy has thickened.
I then use a hand blender to make it smooth, but this is optional.
